FREE May 6 Spring Virtual Tech Conference
Your membership in the Association of PC Users Groups lets you attend the
Virtual Technology Conference May 6th 10am to 2pm.
A few members can get together and watch the sessions together. Or, members can ‘attend’ different presentations at home in their bathrobes and fuzzy slippers and give reports at their next general meeting. Or, if your group meets on May 6, you might watch live one or more of the presentations for your meeting. The ICON group in Missouri did this for the Winter VTC. The Quad-Cites Computer Society has had Tailgate parties in their meeting room with attendees bringing the refreshments. Of course, groups also use the VTC videos for meeting presentations.

In-home Help
Over the years we have had a few members offering in-home help. We have had no problems arise that I know of. However, our insurance does not cover such activities. The Victoria Computer Club offers no in-home services. Members that offer in-home help do so privately, and not as representatives of the Victoria Computer Club in any way.

Presentation March 28th : Seniors’ Services in Greater Victoria.
According to the 2011 census, the total number of seniors (65+) in Greater Victoria was 18.4 % of the total population. This is above the national proportion of seniors (14.8%) and the provincial share of seniors (15.7%).
With the significant number of seniors its essential that information on seniors services be maintained and made available for seniors.
Jane Sheaff, Executive Director of Seniors Serving Seniors will be speaking about seniors’ services in Greater Victoria.
Optional lunch of soup and sandwich for $7 is at 1pm. Choose which sandwich (salmon, egg, or chicken salad) in your RSVP to BigBlueSocial@gmail.com for lunch and/or presentation. Arrive for lunch by 12:45 please.
Even if you are only coming to the presentation please RSVP by Sunday, March 26th so that we will know which room to set up.

Gmail no longer supporting Chrome Browser version 53 and below
Starting February 8, 2017, Google will show a banner at the top of the Gmail interface for users who are still on Google Chrome Browser v53 and below to encourage upgrading to the latest version of Chrome, currently version 55 and/or above. Chrome Browser v55 contains several important security updates. Gmail users that are still on Windows XP and Windows Vista are the most likely to be affected, because v49 was the last released version which supported those operating systems. As previously announced in April 2015 and November 2015, these systems are no longer maintained by Microsoft, and we strongly encourage you to migrate to more secure and supported systems. What happens if users continue to use Chrome Browser v53 and below? Continue reading
